Oysthers Raw Bar’s 1st book club pick

​It’s June 1st and our June book club book is the Ghost Trap by K. Stephens!

We met K in 2023 when she called to interview us for the opening of the restaurant for a local paper. At the end of the interview, she mentioned she had just written a book about a Maine lobsterman. We expressed intense (!!) enthusiasm and a couple days later a signed copy of the ghost trap arrived in the mail. We read it in less than three days.

K truly nailed the complex issues that are harbored in generational fishing families up and down the coast of Maine and also hit a modern chord as well. We saw our family and friends in the story line, and we grew a deep love and understanding for the main character— a good guy trying to do right with the circumstances he is given: both by choice and by fate.

In November of 2024, we rounded up a group of our closest friends to go see THE MOVIE adaptation at smittys in topsham! After you read the book, you have to go see the movie, which we think is available on streaming services like Amazon prime.

You can read the book at your own leisure or over a glass of wine at oysthers. We will meet as a group to mingle with others who have read The Ghost Trap on Tuesday, July 1st from 5-7pm. Happy reading and see you then!
